The VMware vCenter Server Appliance (VCSA) is a SUSE Linux Enterprise based appliance that operates in the same way as a Windows based vCenter Server™. As VCSA’s are not built on Windows, they will not be inventoried during the Windows scanning process and will need to be scanned separately. You can initiate a VCSA scan from the ‘Getting Started’ menu by selecting ‘First Scan’ then checking the ‘vCenter Appliances’ option. Once you have selected this option, click on the ‘Next’ button.
On the ‘vCenter Appliances’ tab click on the ‘Add’ button and enter the appliance’s NetBIOS, Fully Qualified Name or IP address. You will then need to enter the username and password that has access to the appliance. When you enter credentials specific to VCSA and select ‘Save’ you will see ‘vCenter credentials added’ at the bottom of the ‘vCenter Appliances’ tab. Repeat this step for each VCSA in your environment.
Just like all other accounts, VCSA credentials can be updated or deleted from the ‘Manage Credentials’ tab.
Now that you have identified your vCenter Appliance(s) and provided the appropriate credentials to access them, you are ready to scan your VCSA infrastructure. To initiate a scan, click on the ‘Initiate Scan’ tab and select ‘Scan.’
To remove one or more appliances, you have three options. The first is to highlight the appliance you wish to remove and click the ‘Remove’ button. The second is the ‘Clear All’ button which will remove all appliances listed. The third option is closing the Movere Console and reopening it, this will also delete all appliances entered.
NOTE: Movere does not use vCenter Single Sign-On identity sources for authentication. Instead, Movere uses SSH which means the user running the scan must have an account stored on the server housing the VCSA and both SSH and BASH SHELL should be enabled.
