What Windows based devices would you like to scan?
There are four targeting options:
All Windows Devices
Movere will target all Windows Server and Workstation objects within the target domain(s) irrespective of their state. Using this option in smaller domains is fine, but for larger domains or domains with many stale objects, we recommend performing an Active Directory extraction first by unchecking the ‘Windows Devices’ option on the ‘Getting Started’ tab (it is unchecked by default). Movere will process the Active Directory data first then return a rescan file containing only the active Windows devices. This approach can significantly shorten scanning times.
Windows Servers Only
Identical to the ‘All Windows Devices’ option except that Movere will only target devices with a Windows Server operating system.
Windows Workstations Only
Identical to the ‘All Windows Devices’ option except that Movere will only target devices with a Windows Workstation operating system.
Devices can be entered one by one into the box provided using FQDN, NetBIOS or IP Address. Alternatively, large numbers of devices can be targeted directly from the Movere website. For example, you can target all devices by:
- Active Directory Organizational Unit,
- Hypervisor host,
- Naming convention,
- Operating System,
- Make and model etc.
Any dimension available on the Movere website can be used to focus on a specific set of devices. Once the device(s) to be scanned have been identified, select one of the two Rescan options from the ‘Download’ menu on the Movere website:
The Rescan (FQDN) option will create a Rescan file contains the Fully Qualified Domain Name(s) of the targeted devices. The Rescan (Hostname) option will create a Rescan file with the same list of devices, by short (NetBIOS) name. Finally, a Rescan file can be created using Excel. This approach is typically used when targeting by IP address. The screenshot below shows the required format of a Rescan file which can contain all three device name formats in the same file:
NOTE: Irrespective of the naming convention you use, you must specify a domain in the domain column. The scan will not start if this is left blank. If using IP address or NetBIOS name, even if the domain name is incorrect, Movere will still be able to scan the device if the credentials being used permit access, and the devices short name or IP address is available on the network the scan is run from.
To initiate a targeted scan, save the Rescan file on the device the Movere Console is being run from. Open the console and select the ‘Rescan’ option from the ‘Getting Started’ tab. Using the ‘What devices would you like to rescan?’ menu select ‘Browser for rescan file…’ then navigate to the folder housing the Rescan file. Selecting the file will load the Rescan file into the Movere Console:
From the ‘Domains’ tab select the domain(s) to be scanned then from the ‘Initiate Scan’ tab you can start the targeted scan:
